Liverpool legend criticizes Everton’s questionable decision in the summer transfer window

Former Liverpool star Jamie Redknapp has said that Everton made a mistake in failing to find a suitable replacement for Romelu Lukaku during the transfer window.

The Toffees were one of the most active teams during the summer transfer window, however they are struggling in the Premier League so far this season after taking only four points from their opening four games.

Though the Toffees did buy Sandro Ramirez, the Spanish international is still relatively inexperienced and is untested in English football.

Redknapp has now stated his belief that Ronald Koeman’s team tried to emulate their Merseyside rivals Liverpool in terms of trying to spread the scoring of goals across the team and he believes that this could be affecting them badly.

Redknapp said, “Everton may have splashed out almost £150million this summer but Ronald Koeman will have gone to bed on Saturday night bemoaning the lack of balance in his team.

“Rather than replacing RomeluLukaku, it seems Everton have tried to emulate neighbours Liverpool in spreading the goals around.

“Wayne Rooney, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Davy Klaassen are all similar players who can thrive as No 10s but where is the target man?

“Think back to Joe Royle, Graeme Sharp, Duncan Ferguson. Everton fans love a commanding centre forward but Sandro Ramirez does not give them that presence at the top of the team.”
