Match Preview
Pachuca has been struggling in the Liga MX, currently in 11th place with nine points but has already secured a spot in the round of 16 in the Copa MX. Los Tuzos lead Group 8 of the competition with seven points and could improve their overall position to face a potentially weaker opponent in the knockout stage. Manager Diego Alonso has been experimenting in the Liga MX by playing youngsters and has done the same in the Copa MX.
In Pachuca’s last match in the Copa MX, the Uruguayan manager used six players in his starting lineup that did not exceed the age of 20. A youthful starting XI is expected in this game but it should still be good enough to walk away with the three points especially playing at home.
Cimarrones de Sonora has been a decent team in the Ascenso MX, currently in sixth place with 11 points but is already eliminated from an opportunity of reaching the round of 16. The second-tier side is coming off a 2-2 draw against Queretaro but fell 1-0 the first time it played Pachuca in this tournament.
Sonora does not have many notable names on its roster but something to note is that it did feature a complete Mexican-born starting XI in its last Copa MX game against Queretaro. This game does not have a lot of promise but it should still be interesting to see how Pachuca’s youngsters can perform in a competitive atmosphere.
