27-year-old in line to replace Wayne Rooney as England captain

Liverpool captain and Sunderland academy graduate Jordan Henderson is in line to replace Wayne Rooney as England national team captain. The 27-year-old will compete against the likes of Gary Cahill and Harry Kane for the armband.

However, considering that Henderson has the most experience as a captain, he will be the favorite to land the role.

The Three Lions have been without a permanent captain following the retirement of Wayne Rooney last week. Though he will have big shoes to fill, Henderson certainly has the character and ability to take over the role.

He has done a good job in terms of leading Liverpool since Steven Gerrard left the club at the end of the 2014-15 season.

While Henderson is the favorite to land himself the job, England manager Gareth Southgate may delay making a choice. He may use the games between now and the World Cup to provide opportunities to Kane and Cahill to lead the side.
