Dimitri Payet has spoken out about why he left West Ham to return to Marseille.
The 30-year-old Payet left the Hammers under controversial circumstances in January when he refused to play for the club in order to force through a move.
The Frenchman moved to the East London club ahead of the 2015-16 season and enjoyed a stellar season.
He ended up guiding the club to an impressive seventh place finish in the Premier League and ended as a nominee for the Player of the year in the Premier League.
However, Payet left West Ham last season under acrimonious circumstances and has now revealed that it was during Euro 2016 the he had got an urge to return to the Ligue 1 outfit.
He said, “I left Marseille feeling unsatisfied. Playing in Marseille during the Euros brought all that back, and I saw the fans were still behind me despite me changing clubs. I told myself when I left that I would return to OM. Leaving was never in my plans, anyways.”
Marseille had never intended to sell Payet to West Ham a few years ago and the reason why they had to sell him was because they needed to raise funds.
