Following Carvalho fiasco, West Ham to renew rivalry with Sporting Lisbon once again

According to reports, Benfica and Sporting Lisbon are plotting a move for West Ham target Bacary Sagna, who is currently a free agent.

The 34-year-old Sagna was released from Manchester City at the end of last season and has yet to find a new club.

Due to his vast experience at the highest level, there is likely to be a number of players that will be interested in signing him.

The Hammers already picked up one player who was released by City at the end of last season in Pablo Zabaleta.

The Argentina international Zabaleta has not had the best of starts to life at the East London club though and the signing of ex-teammate Sagna could make him step up his performances.

Signing the Frenchman will also allow Slaven Bilic’s side to claim a victory over Sporting, who they were involved in a controversy with this summer after failing to sign William Carvalho.
