According to one-time Leeds manager Neil Redfearn, the club’s striking summer arrival Jay-Roy Grot boasts of what most Elland Road strikers in time past lacked with his endeavour, effort, power and pace.
However, Redfearn claims the forward is tad raw with his movement on and off the ball.
Grot, 19, arrived from Dutch side NEC Nijmegen last month for an initial £750,000 fee, one which could rise to around the £1.5million depending on the fulfillment of some contract clauses.
The Netherlands youth international made the debut of his 4-year deal during the 2-0 league victory over Nottingham Forest last Saturday.
Redfearn, who managed Leeds on 4 occasions between 2012 and 2015, told Radio Yorkshire (as cited on inside football): “I like the look of him. He was only on 20, 25 minutes [against Nottingham Forest], but he looked the part.
“He looked big and strong, and powerful. A little bit raw, if I am honest, with some of his movement. But endeavour, effort, power and pace, something different to what Leeds have had in the past”
The 6 ft 4 in Grot is renowned for his power, athleticism and physicality, with his pace and dribbling ability also standing him out.
Despite primarily being a striker, Leeds’ new Number 11 can also play out wide on the right of the attack, and should he quickly come within grasp of how the goals are banged in the EFL, the club could be on their way to the topflight in no time.
The Whites resume league duty from the international break on Saturday when they host Burton, and Grot would hope to continue impressing if given another chance.
