Rangers’ English-born Ghanaian striker Joe Dodoo has joined English League One side Charlton Athletic on a season loan, and as widely earlier reported, he won’t be getting reunited with former Gers’ boss and Nottingham Forest manager Mark Warburton, who brought him from Leicester City on a 4-year deal for a £250,000 development fee last summer.
Dodoo, 22, went on to score 5 goals in 25 games during the 2016-17 season, but he found himself surplus to requirements under new manager Pedro Caixinha.
He wasn’t able to make any appearance for Rangers until his loan move to Charlton was completed, and it remains to be seen if he would be returning to Ibrox newt summer, with the Championship-chasing team likely to make his deal permanent should he impress.
The former England Under-18 international kicked off his professional career on the most impressive of notes, bagging a hat-trick on his Leicester debut in a 4-1 League Cup over Bury in 2015.
However, Dodoo could only make a single Premier League appearance during Leicester’s title-winning campaign, and was shipped off to Bury, where he played five times and scored once while on loan for the latter half of the season.
The Ghanaian was reportedly close to being the 2nd Rangers player to leave for Forest after out-of-favour winger Barrie McKay was snapped up earlier on.
