Sakho’s stay reportedly blocks West Ham from completing move for striking target

Apparently, West Ham have failed in their efforts to land Lorient striker Abdul-Majeed Waris before transfer deadline, and according to ghanasoccernet, the Ghanaian international has been ordered  to return to the recently relegated club after offers from the Hammers and Burnley were turned down.

However, Waris’ move to the London Stadium falling through could have been well dependent on Diafra Sakho’s last-minute change of mind.

As per Sky Sports, the Senegalese striker’s supposed personal exit plans after he passed a medical at Rennes on Wednesday without West Ham’s permission, was supposed to allow Waris, who was reportedly in London for talks with the club, complete a Hammers’ switch.

Waris, 25, scored 9 Ligue 1 goals for Lorient last term, but they weren’t enough to keep the side in French’s topflight, and he was strongly tipped to move on this summer.

West Ham brought in former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez from Bayer Leverkusen for £16million earlier on in the window, but were still keen on another striker, with the futures of the routinely-injure Andy Carroll and Sakho uncertain.

Burnley also had an £8.2million offer knocked back by the French club, with Waris keen on a West Ham switch instead. It remains to be seen if the Hammers would return for their man come January.

That would most likely depend on the club’s Premier League’s standing and the current situations of their 3 primary strikers by then.
