Rangers reportedly could return in winter transfer window for key summer target

According to the Evening Times, Rangers won’t be returning with another bid for Hearts’ attacking midfielder cum winger Jamie Walker before Thursday’s deadline, unless the Tynecastle board go back on their £1million asking price.

As a result, the Light Blues are most likely to return for Walker in the January transfer window, with the possibility of securing a deal for the wide man on a pre-contract agreement.

Manager Pedro Caixinha wants to add an 11th signing in the form of the 24-year-old before transfer deadline having overseen a squad overhaul all along, but Hearts have held out for £1million as they aren’t willing to lose one of their most prized assets on the cheap.

Walker’s current contract ticks down into a final year, and despite being handed a 3-year extension that would have made him Heart’s highest paid player, last season’s Heart of Midlothian FC Supporters’ Player of the Year is more than willing to call time on his 15-year stay at the club.

Should Rangers get to land him this summer or the next, they can be rest assured of getting an extra-layer of threat on the flanks, and his addition would no doubt boost their chances of at least finishing best of the rest in the league.
