Everton and West Ham reportedly battle to sign African defender

According to reports, Valencia defender Aymen Abdennour is a target of West Ham and Everton.

The 28-year-old was expected to join Russian side Zenit St Petersburg however he has put a move on hold in case a better offer comes in.

The player is said to want a move to France though and this could give the Premier League duo hope that they can sign him.

The Hammers in particular, could use with some defensive reinforcements, considering that their backline has looked leaky as they have conceded ten goals from just three Premier League games so far.

Valencia are keen to get the Tunisia international of their wage bill and have already reduced the £13.9 million fee, which they initially wanted in order to draw more attention.

It is likely that the player will find a new club over the next few days and where he ends up going remains to be seen.
