According to Diario Olé, via Peter Coates of Golazo Argentino, Newcastle are hours away from completing an offer for £3.5million-rated Independiente left-back Nicolás Tagliafico.
The Magpies are said to be keen on letting go of out-of-favour Moroccan left-back Achraf Lazaar having deployed centre-back Chancel Mbemba to the role following Paul Dummett’s unavailability until November.
Tagliafico, 24, remains top of the list for Newcastle as far as getting another left-back goes, and the one-cap Argentina international has proven himself over the years at the Argentine Primera División.
The former Banfield defender has earned deserved comparison with Inter Milan legend Javier Zanetti, with his excellent technique and continuous enterprise similar to the ex-Argentina international’s.
Manager Rafa Benitez wants to shore up his squad for Newcastle’s topflight survival campaign, and Tagliafico could fit perfectly into their rearguard.
Landing the Sevilla-target for his reported asking price would also be a great coup for the Toons.
It’s said striker Dwight Gayle might also be sold as Benitez is short of funds to add any more players, and while the former Crystal Palace shouldn’t be discarded off the back of 2 games, that his goals can be replaced means getting a defender like Tagliafico could be a much worthy cause.
