With few days left to do business in the summer transfer window, Leeds are still hoping to replace Chris Wood.
Middlesbrough striker Rudy Gestede has been linked with an Elland Road move, but a first bid has been knocked back, with manager Garry Monk not willing to let go of his man.
Boro also value the 28-year-old to be worth at least £10million, with Leeds opening bid of £6million deemed not good enough.
It’s believed the Whites would return with an improved offer, but manager Thomas Christiansen was coy about the issue when he was asked.
Speaking to Sky Sports after Leeds United’s 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening, the Spaniard claimed, “We will talk about the signings next week. I don’t know (about a second bid for Gestede). We have to talk after the game with Victor, with the chairman and we will see.”
The departed Wood was a menace to opposition defenders during his time at Elland Road, bagging 27 goals in the Championship last term as the West Yorkshire outfit narrowly failed to make the cut for the playoffs.
To secure at least a playoff spot this term, Leeds have to get a striker close in quality to the New Zealand international.
Christiansen reckons Gestede, who has 36 goals in his last 3 campaigns in the division could be the best man for the job.
Leeds head into the international break 3rd on the log, following 3 wins and 2 draws, and would hope to resume action in September with Gestede or another quality striker capable of firing them to the Premier League this season.
