Chivas of Guadalajara is currently having a disastrous run in the Liga MX, currently in 17th place with five points. In the Copa MX, Los Rojiblancos have been doing much better currently second in Group 7 of the competition with six points. Chivas lost 2-0 against Santos Laguna in the first round of matches in the Copa MX but defeated FC Juarez twice to obtain the six points that have the team in second place in Group 7. Matias Almeyda has used this tournament to give his bench and reserve players playing time using players like Michelle Benitez Jose Macias and Isaac Brizuela but has used some key players like Edwin Hernandez and Orbelin Pineda.

Almeyda may use some key players in this game with the international break and no Liga MX action over the weekend. The win would put Chivas in first in Group 7 but Santos Laguna still has a game in hand.

Santos Laguna is going into this game in much better form than Chivas of Guadalajara coming off its first win of the Liga MX Apertura 2017. Los Guerreros defeated Leon 2-1 for their first win in the Liga MX, putting the team from Torreon in 14th place with seven points.

The Celestial Warriors have won its two games in the Copa MX and have not conceded any goals as well, getting 2-0 wins against Chivas and FC Juarez. Jose Manuel de la Torre has used a mix of key players, bench and reserve players in this competition using players like Julio Furch, Brian Lozano, Javier Cortez and Ronaldo Cisneros. The 20-year-old Cisneros will be one of the more intriguing players to keep an eye on as he has excelled at the U-20 level with nine goals with Santos’ U-20 team in seven games.

The two teams faced each other recently in the sixth round of matches in the Liga MX and the final score was a scoreless draw at the Estadio Corona TSM. This will be the third game between the two teams this season but the first at the Estadio Chivas and the game should be one of the best in this round of matches in the Copa MX.
