According to Kris Boyd, Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha should never have binned out Scotland international forward Barrie McKay.
Over the summer, the new manager has overseen a lot of exits from Ibrox, with the likes of Michael O’Halloran, Joe Garner and Martyn Waghorn axed.
The 4-time Golden Boot winner of the league, Boyd, believes the major squad changes haven’t made any difference in the Light Blues’ season thus far, and that the 22-year-old Nottingham Forest winger shouldn’t have gotten the boot.
Writing in his weekly Scottish Sun column, Boyd singles out McKay as one with a lots of potential that might have had an impact on Rangers’ campaign this term and going forward.
The 34-year-old Kilmarnock striker who fired Rangers to 2 Scottish Premier League titles, 2 Scottish Cups and Scottish League Cups between 2008 and 2010 claims: “Caixinha came in and one of the first things he did was have a clear-out.
“I know some of the guys he punted have done well in the last few weeks — guys like Michael O’Halloran, Joe Garner, Martyn Waghorn and Barrie McKay all scoring goals.
“But for me McKay was the only one who could have had a future at Ibrox. One thing’s for sure, Rangers are already under a bit of pressure, even this early in the season.”
Following 2 wins, a draw and a loss, Rangers currently sit in 5th place on the Scottish Premiership Table, with a recently 3-1 victory over Ross County ensuring they secured their first 3 points in 3 games.
Caixinha has brought in 10 new players this summer, but a majority of them haven’t been able to hit the ground running.
Portugese defender Bruno Alves and Scottish midfielder Dorrans have been the most impressive thus far, while Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos has also shown promises, scoring thrice, including a brace at the weekend.
