Midfielder denies ever being close to Liverpool switch

Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski was inches away from completing a move to Liverpool last summer, as reports emerged that manager Jurgen Klopp even personally got in touch with the Poland international.

However, the 23-year-old has claimed he was never in the know. Speaking to Polish paper Przeglad Sportowy, Zielinski, who had a decent campaign with the Serie A outfit insisted: “I don’t know how I was linked with a move to Liverpool, all I know is that I am happy at Napoli because I’ve joined a big club with a great manager and some amazing fans. I want to continue my career here and I have no regrets at all.”

Liverpool failed to agree a deal with Zielinski’s former club Udinese last summer, leading to a collapse in a move everyone thought was bound to get completed.

A summer after missing out on the Poland international, the Reds are still looking out for another player to help make their midfield even tick the more.

Few reports earlier on in the summer transfer window linked Liverpool with being interested in a return for Zielinski, and that a £25million bid was lodged for the player whose buyout clause stands at £61million.

Per adventure Liverpool ever get hands on their man, he definitely will be a great addition to the midfield.

Zielinski can play in central midfield, on its right, or closer to the front line, and has got skills like dribbling, laying key passes and through balls that could complement the current crops of Reds midfielders well if he were to move to Merseyside.
