Leeds Chairman issues statement explaining Chris Wood’s sale

With news filtering through that Burnley had indeed completed the deal to sign striker Chris Wood, Leeds United and their chairman took time to release a statement about the entire situation.

Since arriving and officially becoming owner, Andrea Radrizzani has made waves and always has had the club’s interests in mind.

His statement indicates as such, saying, “For the past month we have tried to negotiate a new three year contract with Chris Wood.

“We offered the player strong financial terms including reasonable exit clauses, lower than the fee we demanded for a transfer this summer, should the club not reach the Premier League in a certain timeframe.”

This indicates that the club did everything to keep the Kiwi striker, but it was ultimately unsuccessful.

The biggest news from the statement, of course, came at the end when he said “Supporters can rest assured that monies generated from the sale of Chris Wood will be reinvested into adding to the 12 signings we have made already.”

After getting paid a record free from Burnley, the Whites will now have even more money to reinvest in the squad and to better the club as a whole. They are already looking quite good, with an unbeaten season currently, and should be able to push on.

Maybe, just maybe next season will see them lock horns with their old pal in the Premier League.
