Atlas currently has several problems as it is coming from three consecutive defeats and is looking like a team that will miss out on the playoffs. Clifford Aboagye and Leiton Jimenez are both out because of injuries and are set to miss substantial time off the pitch. It is unclear how much time Rafael Marquez will miss due to his ties to a drug-trafficking organization but he is set to miss the rest of the tournament.
Colombian defender Jaine Barreiro also picked himself up a red card in the last game against Cruz Azul and will miss this match as well. The attack for Atlas is very potent with the deadly duo of Matias Alustiza and Milton Caraglio but the dismantled defense and midfield may be the team’s downfall in this match.
Lobos BUAP had a hot start to the season but has cooled off in recent weeks coming from two consecutive losses. The team from Puebla lost 3-2 against Club America last week and 2-0 against Pumas UNAM the week before that. Rafael Puente’s team is still among the more interesting in the Liga MX because of the very aggressive style that is implemented with a 3-5-2 formation.
Julian Quinones was back from injury in that game against Club America and immediately made an impact scoring a brace in that game. The Colombian striker should be one of the main players to watch in this game as he is leading the Liga MX with five goals so far. Even if Lobos BUAP is living the better moment right now the Estadio Jalisco is a very tough venue to visit and the game should prove to be a hard-fought encounter.
