Match Preview

Pachuca is coming off a 2-1 away win against Monarcas Morelia, where 22-year-old midfielder Victor Guzman scored a brace to propel his team to victory. Los Tuzos are currently on a good run of form coming from two consecutive victories including a 2-1 win against Tigres UANL. Before those wins, Pachuca had not won a game in the first three weeks of the competition but the team looks to be back on track now.

Keisuke Honda has been training with the team and his debut is imminent within this week but is more likely that the Japanese international will make his Liga MX debut against Veracruz. Pachuca has the better squad and the home-field advantage which should translate into three points from this game.

Veracruz is undefeated in its last three games coming off a 1-1 draw against Queretaro and getting wins against Puebla and Santos Laguna. Argentine striker Cristian Menendez has shined in this run getting a goal in each of the three games, Uruguayan midfielder Adrian Luna has also netted himself two goals in this run as well.

Los Tiburones have an interesting squad but are not poised for a successful season and are currently bottom of the relegation table. Veracruz is only one point behind Atlas on the relegation table and should have tremendous motivation to keep on getting points throughout the tournament. This game is a mismatch on paper but it could prove to be a much closer and contested encounter at the Estadio Hidalgo.
