Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has admitted that he holds no power to try and influence Philippe Coutinho to remain at the club this season.
Coutinho has been heavily linked with a move to Spanish giants Barcelona who reportedly view him as a replacement for Neymar who has joined PSG in a world record deal.
Coutinho wishes to join the Spanish giants and handed in a transfer request to the Reds on Friday. The Brazil international Coutinho did not travel with the Reds to Germany this week for their Champions League clash against Hoffenheim as he is said to be recovering from an injury.
Henderson said about the situation, “It is obviously a difficult situation for Phil. Whatever I say will not help the situation but as players, we are fully focused on the game.
“As players, you expect things in the transfer window to happen and players come and go. Of course, if you ask everyone, they want Phil to stay as he is a world-class player. I have had conversations with Phil, it is private, (but) I don’t think I can influence the situation.
“I am close to him and I have a lot of respect for him, but everything that happens is nothing to do with me.”
