Tottenham reportedly to return with second bid for promising wing target

Anthony Martial

According to TMW, Tottenham are willing to launch a second bid for Manchester United winger Anthony Martial, having seen their first bid rejected on Friday.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has the French international, 21, on top of his wish list and is hoping a deal can be secured before transfer deadline day.

Martial has featured sparingly for the Red Devils since Jose Mourinho succeeded Louis van Gaal as manager, and it doesn’t appear he would be getting back into the Portuguese’ starting XI anytime soon.

The former Monaco prodigy has been linked to be part of any deal that would allow Inter Milan Croatian winger Ivan Perisic move to Old Trafford this summer.

Martial switched to United from Monaco 2 summers on a 4-year deal worth £36million that could potentially rise to £58million.

So, prising him away won’t come cheaply for Spurs. However, if a deal can be somehow completed for the French former Golden Boy, manager Mauricio Pochettino could consider himself blessed to have a very promising talent on his hands.

If there is a gaffer that can be patient enough to coach some level of consistency and rapid improvement into Martial, it’s the Argentine.

A move to Tottenham can do the lofty dreams of both club and player a lot of good, but this doesn’t look like a deal that will come to fruition easily.
