Ex-Liverpool star baffled as to why the Reds did not sign £40million man

Former Liverpool star Dietmar Hamann has questioned why Liverpool did not aim to sign Nemanja Matic after the Serbian helped Manchester United defeat West Ham 4-0 on Sunday.

The Red Devils bought Matic from Chelsea this summer after Antonio Conte’s team surprisingly agreed to sell him for £40 million.

Hamann believes that Matic is a match-winner and questioned why Liverpool did not attempt to sign him by saying, “Matic the missing link to make United title contenders. Shrewd buy by Mourinho. Type of player LFC badly needed. At least I’m not walking alone.”

Matic’s former club, defending champions Chelsea started off the season on a bad note by succumbing to a 3-2 defeat against Burnley on Saturday while United looked very good in his presence.

As for Liverpool, they started off the season on a disappointing note by drawing 3-3 with Watford on Saturday.
