Former West Ham star Tony Gale has said that the Hammers must try to keep hold of Manuel Lanzini at all costs.
Despite the Hammers being largely disappointing last season, Lanzini was one of the clubs impressive players and was rewarded for his performances with a call up to the Argentina national team.
The 24-year-old Lanzini has reportedly become a target of Liverpool, who are said to view him as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho as the Brazilian has emerged as a target of Barcelona.
As Lanzini is a key part of the Hammers, it will be a blow if they lose him and Gale believes that the club must ensure that they keep the player.
He said, “It is vital West Ham do not lose Lanzini. He could be the star of this season for the club. He is special and, with the new players Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic around him, Lanzini can have an even bigger impact.
“He is one of those gifted players who wants the ball and wants to keep it to create something.”
