Sunderland manager Simon Grayson has revealed that his club will need to sell players before they can explore the possibility of buying new talent.
Grayson said: “I’ve got a good relationship with Martin, and it’s really a case of seeing what happens with getting players out. It’s going to be a case of when a player leaves, we will replace them.
“There might still be scope to bring in players without that happening, too. And if somebody goes out for a large amount of money, it might allow you to bring in two off the back of one going out.
“It’s all relative to the wages, I’ve still got two loans, so there are plenty of options for us. But it’s one of those situations where you are waiting for other clubs to do certain business and then, if it’s the right deal for us and we’re given the green light by the club we’re talking to, then we can go ahead.”
Lamine Kone and Whabi Khazri are two players who have been heavily linked with moves away from the Stadium of Light this summer and should the duo depart; the Black Cats will definitely aim to sign replacements as it will aprovide them with the capital that will be required to lure the replacements.
Grayson is reportedly aiming to sign Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack before the close of the transfer window. With the 30-year-old McCormack being surplus to requirements at Villa, his club will be willing to sell him for the right price.
Though McCormack was not on form last season, he is one of the most experienced strikers in the Championship and Grayson could be the manager that helps the veteran to reignite his career.
