Cruz Azul is off to a decent start to this Apertura 2017 with a win against Club Tijuana and draws against Chivas and Leon. The 2-2 draw against Leon was very disappointing as La Maquina suffered an infamous “Cruzazuleada” by giving up a 2-1 lead in the 89th minute of the game.
It seems like the Mexico City team will forever struggle to maintain leads but the positive is that some of the signings that were brought in this off season like Edgar Mendez and Felipe Mora are making an impact on the team. Paco Jemez is implementing his enticing style of play and Cruz Azul seems to be on its way to a successful season under the Spanish manager if the favorable results can be achieved.
Toluca is currently undefeated and is coming off a massive 3-2 win against Atlas last week. Los Diablos also defeated Leon 3-1 in week 2 and had a scoreless draw against Chivas away from home in week 1. Since that week 1 draw, Hernan Cristante’s offense has been very potent and will look to continue its dominance in this game.
Fresh signing Alexis Canelo made his debut with the team in Toluca’s 2-0 win against UdeG in the Copa MX competition earlier this week. The Argentine striker should help solidify an already dangerous attack and help Toluca contend for playoff glory this season. This game should be one of the best this weekend and should really offer an enticing encounter between two potent sides.
