Liverpool handed blow as 21-year-old potential transfer target to stay put

According to The Sun, Leicester City forward Demarai Gray will continue with the Foxes next season having decided against leaving as earlier proposed.

This deals a blow on Liverpool’s ambitions of landing the 21-year-old after his exit intentions alerted them.

Gray arrived the King Power Stadium from Birmingham City for £3.7million in January 2016, and he subsequently made 10 EPL appearances off the bench as Leicester won the title.

Last term, the England under-21 international struggled for playing time, as he came on as a sub on 26 occasions across all competitions.

Liverpool alongside Everton and Tottenham were linked with being interested in going for Gray’s signature were he to be available.

However, Leicester manager Craig Shakespeare has poured cold water on any exit plan. He stated when asked about the player’s future, “We’ve had conversations, myself and Dimi. It is well-documented. We have spoken about trying to give him more game-time and we are both happy with that.”

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is hoping to mount a stiff title challenge next term and is keen on adding another quality forward to his attack.

Gray’s speed ticks the box as far as the Reds style of play goes, and he would have been the perfect cover for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Guess Liverpool won’t have to stress the could haves on the move. If it should have, it would have.
