As per German newspaper Bild, RB Leipzig midfielder and Liverpool target Naby Keita won’t be making a move to Anfield this summer having already had 2 bids for him from the Reds turned down.
However, despite having 3 years left to the expiration of his current contract, the 22-year-old Guinea international would be available for £48million next summer due to a clause.
Leipzig sporting director Ralf Rangnick has expressed worries over Keita’s future as he admitted the midfielder is unlikely to sign an extension with the club.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had the 22-year-old Guinea international on his transfer wish list, but has seen as much a club-record £66million bid rejected by the Bundesliga outfit.
From the most recent development of what has been one of the longest transfer sagas of the window, his man is tentatively unavailable until 12 months’ time.
It doesn’t appear Klopp has a replacement in the market for Keita in his plans, so Liverpool are very much likely to wait it out for their target.
That shouldn’t be a problem, though; as the club have enough in the tank as far as blocking midfielders go.
Perhaps, Keita’s unavailability is a blessing in disguise, as it could even provide the likes of Emre Can and Jordan Henderson a huge chance to continue working on their impact in the final third.
