Following his outstanding display in Liverpool’s 3-nil trashing of Bayern Munich on Tuesday, Alberto Moreno has high hopes of remaining at Anfield next term and could even earn himself a spot in the starting XI.
This is according to manager Jurgen Klopp who was pretty impressed by the performances of the 25-year-old left-back.
The Spaniard started just 2 EPL games last term, coming off the bench on 10 other occasions having lost his berth to makeshift James Milner.
The £10million arrival of Andy Robertson from Hull City appeared to further put the Liverpool future of Moreno under huge doubts.
The tables seem to have turned, as apparently, he has earned the trust of the manager who spoke highly of him following the Audi Cup clash.
As per The Sun, Klopp waxed lyrical about Moreno’s efforts claiming, “If he plays like he did here, then yes of course he still has a future. It was a really good performance by Alberto and that’s the reason we kept him on…I don’t close the door on anybody. The players will decide themselves how many games they play this season.”
Moreno arrived Liverpool from Sevilla in the summer of 2014 on a £12million deal, playing 60 leagues games over the next 2 campaigns as he made the left-back position solely his.
Sadly, his form tailed off at the start of last season, and it remains to be seen if he will regain his starting berth next term.
The speedster was a subject of heavy transfer speculations months ago, with A.C. Milan and Inter Milan registering interest in acquiring his services, while an £11million bid for him from Napoli was turned down in June.
It’s said the Spain international will be allowed to leave if his £15million valuation is met, but considering Klopp’s latest plaudits, Alberto Moreno might have just been handed a route back into the Liverpool starting XI.
