This Wednesday, August 2, 2017 (7:00 PM Pacific) Chivas of Guadalajara will host FC Juarez at the Estadio Chivas for a match in the Apertura 2017 edition of the Copa MX. Both teams will be looking for their first three points in the tournament and should present a hard-fought game.
Chivas of Guadalajara is the current champions of the Copa MX but had a rough 2-0 loss against Santos Laguna to start this edition of the cup competition. Matias Almeyda’s side suffered from disciplinary issues as both goals conceded came via penalty. The starting 11 that the Argentine manager presented was very young with the 24-year-old Michael Perez serving as the club captain.
Almeyda may consider using a few key starters like Orbelin Pineda or Rodolfo Pizarro to secure the three points at the Estadio Chivas but may also just start his more inexperienced players to avoid more injuries. This could be a very tough task for Chivas if the same squad that played Santos Laguna goes out on the field again.
FC Juarez is yet to play in the Copa MX this season but is the underdog in this group with Chivas and Santos Laguna. The border city side tied 1-1 against Tampico Madero in week 1 of the Ascenso MX but is coming off a 2-0 loss against Atletico San Luis away from home.
Manager Miguel Fuentes doe count with some former notable Liga MX players like the goalkeeper Ivan Vazquez, the Uruguayan defender Jonathan Lacerda and the Mexican striker Mario Ortiz. Chivas should win this game but it should still be a contested game in Guadalajara.
