Newcastle United flop Grant Hanley is all set to sign for Harry Redknapp’s Birmingham City, reports The Chronicle.
The 25-year-old former Blackburn Rovers defender knows that his days are numbered at the St. James’ park as he has not featured in the last two friendlies for Newcastle.
Hanley was close to a move to Derby County this summer but the move fell through due to unknown reasons.
Newcastle United boss Benitez is desperate to off load the defender anyhow before the Premier League starts.
The Magpies purchased Scottish international for £5.6 million from Blackburn Rovers last season but he appeared in only 13 games for Newcastle United.
Hanley’s deal with Newcastle runs up to 2021 but the defender is one of the players who has been shown the doors by Benitez.
Benitez prefers to hold a tight squad and focus on selected number of players while improving on the teamwork. As a result, he is expected to cut short the squad depth.
