Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti has claimed that Liverpool will make the Champions League more competitive during the upcoming season.
Liverpool were regular qualifiers for Europe’s Premier Club competition form 2000-2010 however their fortunes have changed over recent years as the past season represented only the second time in eight seasons that the club has qualified for the Champions League.
Ancelotti previously managed Milan against Liverpool during two Champions League finals in 2005 and in 2007.
In 2005 he saw his Milan team defeated on penalties despite the fact that his team had a 3-0 lead at half time with the Reds going on to dramatically draw equal during the second half. In 2007 though, Ancelotti managed to gain revenge over the Reds as his Milan outfit this time prevailed 2-1.
He has now said of the Reds, “Liverpool did a fantastic season last year. They played really well. They fought for the title, they reached qualification for the Champions League.
“I think the Champions League this year will be more competitive because there are really important English teams in the competition – [Manchester] United, [Manchester] City, Chelsea, Tottenham [Hotspur], Liverpool.”
