Aston Villa dealt with a huge injury blow ahead of the Championship campaign

Aston Villa have been dealt a blow after it has emerged that midfielder Jack Grealish will be out of action for up to three months after undergoing a kidney operation.

The 21-year-old Grealish suffered an injury during his clubs pre-season friendly with Watford during the weekend after he collided with Tom Cleverley. It has since emerged that the incident caused one of his kidneys to bleed.

Grealish was impressive for the Villains last season after scoring five goals from 33 appearances for the club. There is no doubt that he will be disappointed by the news, especially as he is a young footballer who is keen to make his mark on the game.

The player confirmed news of his injury stating on social media, “Absolutely devastated.. got a nasty elbow to the stomach in yesterday’s game which caused a bleed in my kidney. Had a mini op early this morning and will now be out for at least 2-3 months.

“Gutted as season was about to start next week but will be doing everything to come back fitter and stronger. Upthevilla.”
