Sunderland manager Simon Grayson has revealed that he hopes that a deal for goalkeeper Robin Ruiter can soon be concluded.

The 30-year-old is currently undergoing a trial with the Black Cats but has also reportedly attracted the interest of Hull City and Burnley.

Grayson is now confident that a deal can be reached for Ruiter though and said, “He was always going back to Holland, he had some issues to sort over there but we’re talking to his agent and we’re hopeful might be able to complete a deal.”

Grayson needs an experienced goalkeeper as his first choice next season after Jordan Pickford and Vito Mannone left the club this summer following their relegation form the Premier League.

One candidate in Jason Steele struggled for the Black Cats first team, and Ruiter will be a good option to start the new season as first choice for the Black Cats next season, especially considering that he has 137 League appearances for Dutch club FC Utrecht under his belt.
