Newcastle United reportedly ready to launch bid for 26-year-old; Asking price is £25million

According to reliable Journalist Dean Jones, Newcastle United could be set to launch a bid for Everton midfielder James McCarthy. The Republic of Ireland international McCarthy has long been linked with a move to the Magpies.

He was criticized during the past season by manager Ronald Koeman after seeing his progress curtailed by injuries.  However, Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is said to be a fan of McCarthy even though he only managed 13 appearances for the Toffees last season.

The Toffees will likely be open to listening to decent offers for McCarthy as he appears to be surplus to requirements at the club.

Given that the club boasts Idrissa Gueye, Morgan Schneiderlin and Tom Davies as choices in central midfield, it is hard to see McCarthy getting regular first team action next season.

A move to St James Park could offer McCarthy the opportunity to play regularly at the highest level again and the transfer coming into fruition is likely.
