Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that the absence of an established forward during his teams Champions League qualifier with Rosenborg impacted the team negatively.
Tom Rogic had to play the furthest forward as a result of Leigh Griffiths being unavailable due to suspension while Moussa Dembele is sidelined through injury.
Rodgers said of the difficult situation at hand, “Nil-nil is never a bad result in Europe. If you can’t score it is important we don’t concede. I was pleased with the players. We were up against it a wee bit without strikers.
“They (Rosenborg) will want to come out a little bit more than they did, they will need to take the initiative. It is still evenly-balanced. If we go and play like we did at Monchengladbach and Manchester City last season then we are through. We will go there confident.”
The goalless draw with the Norwegians means that the Scottish giants will need to win the away leg to have a chance of advancing to the playoffs.
The result definitely leaves Celtic with plenty of hard work to do. The Bhoys will have to hope that Griffiths recovers in time to play and they will have to not lose hope.
