Bilic explains he had been after new West Ham star for a long time

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has revealed that Javier Hernandez was on top of the list of players that he wanted to bring to the club this summer.

The Mexican international Hernandez has joined the East London club on a three year contract from German side Bayer Leverkusen for £16 million recently.

Bilic had previously tried to unsuccessfully lure Hernandez two years ago when Manchester United opted to sell him but he is now happy to have finally signed the striker.

Bilic said of Hernandez, “Chicharito is very important in this project, When I came to West Ham two years ago and he was leaving United, I wanted him then.

“When he decided to go to Leverkusen, he told me ‘sorry’ and now after two years, I found out he may leave I called him again. We didn’t have to start from zero.

“He is a fantastic player. Very experienced and has been everywhere and has scored goals. He runs, he presses, everything. He was our number one target on our list of strikers.”

The Hammers struggled for goals at times last season and they will certainly hope that Hernandez will add more firepower to their attack.
