This Friday, July 28, 2017 (5:00 PM Pacific) Puebla will host Monarcas Morelia at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc for a matchup in week 2 of the Liga MX Apertura 2017. Both teams were fighting relegation last season but have distinct objectives in this new season.
Puebla is still in the relegation race, currently in 14th on the relegation table but is 11 points ahead of Veracruz in penultimate place. Los Camoteros had a grim display in their season debut, falling 5-0 against Tigres UANL away from home. The offense looked nonexistent and the defense was fragile and slow against a dominant Tigres’ side. There is still some intriguing players on Puebla like Cristian Esparza, Carlos Salom and Felix Micolta but the team will have a very difficult task in Monarcas Morelia.
Monarcas Morelia is coming off a solid scoreless draw against Monterrey at home to start off the Apertura 2017 campaign. La Monarquia did look shaky in the defense but Monterrey’s inability to be clinical spared Morelia. The Uruguayan goalkeeper Sebastian Sosa also had a solid performance stopping all three shots on goal by Monterrey. Roberto Hernandez counts with a very potent offense with players like Jefferson Cuero, Andy Polo and Raul Ruidiaz and it should be able to break through the weak Puebla back line.
The match should be a contested, hard-fought encounter to start off this second round of action in the Apertura 2017 and should be one to watch.
