According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton have pipped Southampton, Manchester City and Tottenham to the signing of Newcastle teenage sensation Lewis Gibson, in a deal which could exceed £6million in transfer fees.
The 17-year-old defender rejected a contract extension with the Magpies in favour of a move to Goodison Park.
The England youth international played a huge role during the country’s run to the grand finale of the European Under-17s Championship in May; which they unfortunately lost to Spain via penalties.
Gibson is as highly-rated as they come, and has been widely tipped by many to go all the way to the top of the game in few years time.
He will be joining Everton’s under-23s squad, managed by David Unsworth, and should be integral to their campaign as they set out to defend their Premier League 2 title next season.
The acquisition of the hugely talented and demanded youngster is a testament to the Toffees exciting long-term project under Farhad Moshiri.
Having also recently recruited Josh Bowler and Boris Mathis; two highly-talented youngsters to the under-23s, the future is definitely very bright for the Merseyside outfit.
