Pumas UNAM was one of the biggest surprises of the Liga MX Clausura 2017 but was not because of a good reason. The Mexico City team was one of the most disappointing teams last tournament, finishing in penultimate place, only above Puebla in the competition. The most notable additions to the team this offseason were the Argentine midfielder, Mauro Formica and the Ecuadorian winger, Joffre Guerron. It is unclear how the fresh signings will perform in this tournament and whether they can make an impact in this game against a formidable opponent.
Pachuca also had a disappointing campaign in the Liga MX Clausura 2017, finishing in 10th, missing out on the playoffs. Los Tuzos had an extremely busy offseason, losing a key player in Hirving Lozano but bringing in some huge names in Edson Puch from Necaxa and Keisuke Honda from AC Milan. The signing of the Japanese international, Honda was particularly intriguing and could even prove to be one of the biggest signings in the Liga MX in the last few years.
Pachuca will have some key absences who are currently playing for the Mexican national team at the 2017 Gold Cup in Jorge Hernandez, Erick Gutierrez and Raul Lopez. Even with these absences, Pachuca still has a very formidable squad that should put a solid effort in this game. The game should be very entertaining and it is unclear, which team will have the advantage going into the encounter.
