Newcastle’s goalkeeping situation further complicated with Randolph’s move to Middlesbrough

Newcastle United have undergone another twist in the goalkeeping situation at St. James’ Park after Darren Randolph joined Middlesbrough for £4.5 million.

Boro submitted a £5 million bid for Magpies shot-stopper Karl Darlow two weeks ago, however Rafa Benitez’s squad rejected as they wished for a higher amount.

Once it was made known that Randolph was being made available for £4.5 million, Boro opted to sign the Republic of Ireland international instead.

As a result, this could see Darlow’s time at the club extended. The Magpies also have Rob Eliott and the long-serving Tim Krul on their books but it is thought that they will be open to listening to offers for the Dutch international Krul.

Despite the many options, Newcastle are however still looking to recruit a new goalkeeper with Benitez saying, “Hopefully, we can bring in a new goalkeeper and this competition will be good for the team. The main thing for Rob Elliot is to be fit, he is training hard after playing the final three games of last season.”
