Sunderland reportedly want to enter surprise deal with Leeds United

Sunderland are reportedly weighing up signing Leeds United goalkeeper Rob Green, with the veteran said to be considering his future at Elland Road.

Black Cats manager Simon Grayson needs to sign a new experienced shot-stopper given that the club’s first and second choice keepers from last season, Jordan Pickford and Vito Mannone, have both left the club.

Grayson does not have a seasoned shot-stopper in his squad at the moment. The only options which he has currently are youngster Max Stryjek, who played against Hartlepool this past week, and Mika, both of whom lack first team experience.

Green may start the season as the Whites second choice given that the club signed German international Felix Wiedwald.

At 37 years old, Green has plenty of experience at the highest level and he also knows that he is at the latter stages of his football career which may make him want to play first team football, leading to a move to Sunderland.
