This Saturday, July 22, 2017 (3:30 PM Pacific) the United States will host Costa Rica at AT & T Stadium in Arlington, Texas for a semi-final match in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Both teams are heavy favorites to take the title and should deliver a heavily contested match.
The United States topped Group B of the competition with seven points but just beat out second-place Panama on total goals scored. The Americans blazed past El Salvador in the quarterfinals of the tournament, getting a 2-0 win with goals from Omar Gonzalez and Eric Lichaj.
The North American side has not looked overly dominant in the competition with some questionable games like the 1-1 draw against Panama in the group stage of the tournament. Home-field advantage should be a crucial factor in this game and could propel the United States to a victory over Costa Rica in this contested game.
Costa Rica has looked convincing so far in this tournament even without key players like Keylor Navas and Celso Borges. Los Ticos blazed past the group stages, topping Group A with seven points, then had a convincing 1-0 victory against Panama in the quarterfinals. Los Ticos have counted with a solid team effort, having six different goal scorers throughout the competition.
While Costa Rica does have a rigid side that is tough to break down, this game will be a tremendous task playing against a very talented squad and the host nation. The game should be a thrilling encounter between two of the strongest teams in the Gold Cup tournament.
