This Saturday, July 15, 2017 (8:00 AM Pacific) Monaco will play Stoke City for a club friendly match at the Stade d’Octodure in Martigny, Switzerland. Monaco came out as surprise champions in the Ligue 1, while Stoke City had a disappointing EPL campaign, both teams will have a lot to prepare for next season.
Monaco has had a quiet off-season since being crowned champions of the Ligue 1 last season. Some of the more notable names that have come into the principality side have been the Swiss goalkeeper, Diego Benaglio, the young defenders, Jordy Gaspar and Terence Kongolo and the 20-year-old Belgian midfielder, Youri Tielemans. It seems like Kylian Mbappe-Lottin will remain on the Ligue 1 side, which could help Monaco reach another league title and a solid run in the Champions League. A significant departure from the team was the Portuguese winger, Bernardo Silva but the fresh signings like Tielemans should help stabilize the club.
Stoke City had a very disappointing 2016-2017 EPL campaign, finishing in thirteenth, with a squad that was capable of doing much more. Mark Hughes has had a quiet offseason, with the most notable signing being the young English striker, Saido Berahino from West Bromwich Albion.
The 23-year-old striker will help solidify the attack with players like Marko Arnautovic and Xherdan Shaqiri to assist him. Monaco will be looking to stay consistent next season, while Stoke City is looking for a dramatic change for a more successful campaign. This match should be an exciting encounter even if Monaco seem like the favorites to take the W.
