This Saturday, July 15, 2017 (7:00 AM Pacific) St. Gallen will host Southampton for a club friendly match at the Kybunpark in St. Gallen, Switzerland. Both teams are solid sides in their respective leagues and should take full advantage of the encounter heading into the new season.
St. Gallen finished seventh in the Swiss Super League last season and will be contending for its first league championship in 17 years. Manager, Giorgio Contini counts with a solid squad filled with players from Switzerland including the veteran, Tranquillo Barnetta. The former Bundesliga and MLS player is at another stage in his career at 32 years old and will look to help his team where his career started. Southampton will be a very tough test for the Swiss side but it should still be a contested clash this Saturday.
Southampton is currently in a transitional phase with the ambitious Argentine manager, Mauricio Pellegrino now at the helm. The Saints finished eighth last season in the EPL and will look to keep the consistency of solid top half finishes this season. Pellegrino has not made many changes to an already solid roster but has brought in 21-year-old Polish centre-back, Jan Bednarek.
The imminent departure of team captain, Virgil Van Dijk might force Pellegrino to bring in a few more players but it will be intriguing to see what happens in the last few days of the offseason. This game should be won by the English side but it will be a good test, away from home for The Saints.
