This Saturday, July 15, 2017 (4:00 PM Pacific) the United States will host Nicaragua at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio for a group stage match in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Both teams are on opposite sides of the table and the United States are the heavy favorites to come away with the three points.
The United States has had underwhelming performances in the competition, starting off with a 1-1 draw against Panama and following that result with a slim 3-2 victory against Martinique. Dom Dwyer scored the lone goal in the game against Panama, while Pachuca’s, Omar Gonzalez scored one goal and Jordan Morris netted himself a brace against Martinique. Apart from being the host nation, the Americans have one of the strongest rosters in the tournament and should be able to easily win this game.
Nicaragua has proven to be one of the weakest teams in this edition of the Gold Cup, currently bottom of Group B with no points and a goal differential of negative three. The Central American nation started off with a lackluster 2-0 loss against Martinique and then lost 2-1 against Panama. All the Nicaragua roster plays in Central America, except for Luis Copete, who plays in Peru and Daniel Cadena, who plays in Iceland. This could be a major reason why Nicaragua is struggling massively in this tournament. The game is not expected to be a competitive affair and the hosts should come away with the three points.
