West Ham reportedly have a combined bid of £44million rejected

According to reports, West Ham United have failed in their attempts to sign Cologne striker Anthony Modeste as well as Villarreal forward Cedric Bakambu.

According to reports, the Hammers made bids of £22 million each for the forwards, which is more than the £20 million which they paid for club record signing Andre Ayew.

Modeste was on brilliant form last season for Cologne and managed to bag 25 goals. However the Bundesliga club are said to be demanding £35 million for his services, which is a heavy fee considering that he is 29 years old.

Bakambu has also had a good season with Villareal and managed 22 goals last season and it remains to be seen what his asking price is.

The Hammers are determined to add new quality forwards to their ranks this summer after both Andy Caroll and Diafra Sakho struggled with form and fitness last season but are not finding things easy in the transfer market as it stands.
