According to reports, West Ham United have abandoned their interest in signing Chris Smalling from Manchester United.
The Hammers had been looking to bring in the £15million-rated Smalling from United this summer as they look to build upon a rather disappointing past season.
With Smalling having failed to impress last season, United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly willing to let the defender go this summer.
Slaven Bilic’s West Ham have now however decided to cool their interest in Smalling after deducing that they have adequate options in the center back position at the moment.
The club have the likes of Jose Fonte, James Collins, Angelo Ogbonna as well as Reece Oxford all as options.
Nonetheless, the East London club are still aiming to add Saint-Etienne defender Kevin Malcuit to their ranks this summer. They will have to compete against the likes of Lille for Malciut though, after seeing a £4.4 million offer for the player rejected last week.
