Newcastle in pole position to sign experienced Mexican international

According to reports, Newcastle have been linked with Porto defender Miguel Layun. According to Mexican news outlet Futebol 360, the Magpies are in pole position in the race to sign Layun and will be expected to make an offer during the coming days.

With Achraf Lazaar and Massadio Haidara having failed to establish themselves with the Magpies and provide competition to Paul Dummett for the left back position, the duo are likely to leave the club soon.

This means that Rafa Benitez will have to sign new left backs to provide competition to Dummett.

Layun will be a good addition to the Magpies side as they aim to perform well in the Premier League next season.

The 28-year-old is very experienced and has been a regular member of the Porto team for the past two seasons. He also has 50 caps for the Mexico national team and formed a key part of the 2014 World Cup side which reached the last 16 of the tournament.
