Newcastle United reportedly set to sign Republic of Ireland star

According to reports, Everton midfielder James McCarthy has played his final game for the club and will be joining Newcastle this summer.

Newcastle are looking to recruit McCarthy in order to bolster their squad ahead of their Premier League return next season.

McCarthy has had a difficult season which has been hampered by injuries. All in all, he made just 13 appearances in all competitions scoring one goal and recording two assists.

Toffees manager Ronald Koeman has also expressed his frustration at McCarthy’s injuries, which he feels have been exacerbated by his international duties with the Republic of Ireland.

McCarthy has slipped down the pecking order at Goodison Park and at this stage; a move is likely and will be best for his career.

Koeman has brought in new central midfielders in Idrissa Gueye and Morgan Schneiderlin last season and in addition to this, Tom Davies has now established himself within the squad and looks to be an exciting future prospect.
