Newcastle readying a £6million move for Premier League striker

According to reports, Newcastle are lining up a £6 million bid for Burnley striker Ashley Barnes. The 27-year-old has started Burnley’s last six Premier League matches, scoring one goal and notching one assist in the process.

All in all during this season, Barnes has scored six goals and created three assists from 27 matches. The stats of Barnes are not particularly impressive and Burnley manager Sean Dyche may be looking to sell as he looks for improvements up front next season.

Considering that the Englishman still has three years remaining on his current deal at Turf Moor, the summer may be the best time for The Clarets to cash in.

From a Newcastle perspective, Barnes would definitely not be a match winner and somebody who the club would want starting regularly at this point in time. However he could provide valuable cover for Dwight Gayle and has the addition of experience playing at the highest level.
