West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has admitted interest in signing Jermain Defoe, and believes that the veteran’s history with the club may help land his signature during the summer.

“Defoe is a very interesting player – even those big clubs are thinking about him as back-up. But this is home”, said Bilic.

The 34 year old striker will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season, following Sunderland’s relegation from the Premiership and he will be looking to extend his stay in the EPL. Defoe is one of the most experienced forwards in the Premier League and has scored 14 goals this season, to prove that he can still compete at the highest level.

Due to his reputation, Defoe will definitely not be short of offers from clubs. The Hammers are in need of new forwards following inconsistency from Diafra Sakho and Andy Caroll this season. Whether they do end up signing him, will ultimately depend on what kind of deal is offered.
